Gregory R. McConnell
Consultant and Legislative Advocate 

Greg McConnell is our principal consultant and advocate. He is highly regarded for his expertise and effectiveness on housing issues.

Greg is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, former chief executive of rent control programs in Washington, D.C. and Berkeley, California, and a consultant and advocate who has represented the interests of builders, property owners, management companies, and trade groups for over twenty years.

In 1995, Greg led the charge to outlaw restrictive rent control in California through the passage of the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act. He has advised thousands of owners on rent control issues and represented them in administrative hearings in Berkeley and Oakland California.  Greg’s work includes assistance to builders in the entitlement process, condominium conversions, and individual consulting on major regulatory issues and public relations and education campaigns.

Greg serves as CEO and President of the Coalition for Jobs and Housing, an Oakland California trade group that represents premier home builders and major employers. He currently serves on Oakland’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Housing Affordability.

Legislators, housing experts, and business leaders give Greg high marks for his ability to develop practical and equitable solutions to complicated housing problems. His views and activities have been reported in many of the nation’s major news outlets and he is a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows. Greg publishes The McConnell Report for leading California apartment association magazines.

Based upon his training and experience, Greg McConnell is uniquely qualified and well positioned to help shape public policy on housing issues and promote the economic interests of housing providers.
